'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles amid the on-field celebration.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and the defender promptly hammered in the deflection before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. In the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right flank after they changed shape. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even seeing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has rapidly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without real physicality. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that growth for club and country, shining for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he comments, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I reached the point where I knew I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, Pete and Howard, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include a teammate, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the following person to stop using the bus and on the road. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with followers on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
